A delegation representing the Central Board of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party, headed by Vice-Chairman Alexan Garadaghanyan, today paid a visit to the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in the Republic of Armenia.
The delegation included Vigen Khachatryan, Advisor to the Central Board on Armenian affairs and member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Sosi Puleghyan, member of the ADL Central Board, and Yerevan-based party members.
Alexan Garadaghanyan presented the letter of condolence sent by the ADL Central Board on the occasion of the devastating earthquake that struck Syria to Ambassador Dr. Nora Arisian, conveying the condolences and solidarity of the ADL’s worldwide circles and entire membership to Syria’s leadership and people.
The delegation members expressed the hope that Syria and its people, who have passed through the crucible of great crisis and war since 2011, will also overcome this disaster, soon rise to their feet, and return to their important role.
The Vice-Chairman of the ADL Central Board informed Madam Ambassador about the measures undertaken to provide assistance to the afflicted people of Syria and the Syrian-Armenian community. He stated that hours after the disaster, the ADL Central Board, through a special declaration, mobilised the ADL’s circles and structures, and also called upon the entire Armenian community to organise the necessary fundraising and contribute to alleviating the suffering of those affected by the earthquake.
Ambassador Dr. Nora Arisian expressed gratitude for the support and condolences of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party and highly appreciated the humanitarian aid and assistance initiated by the ADL.
Member of Parliament Vigen Khachatryan, considering important the presence of Armenian rescuers in the disaster zone, noted with gratitude that throughout the history of the Armenian people, during all trials, Syria and its people have always expressed solidarity and shown a fraternal approach toward the Armenian people. He recalled in particular the arrival in Armenia of a plane loaded with wheat from Syria during the days of the 1988 Spitak earthquake, noting that the Armenian people will never forget how Syria’s government and people came to the aid of the Republic of Armenia to alleviate the pain of the Armenian people.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed the general situation prevailing in Syria and the overall state of Armenia-Syria relations.
At the end of the meeting, Maki Nshanyan-Soghikyan, on behalf of the ADL Central Board, made an entry in the book of condolences.
