Taking into account the devastating earthquake of February 6, which further deepened the humanitarian crisis that has been ongoing in Syria for years, the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund is providing financial support to 15 Armenian educational institutions operating in the city of Aleppo, as well as those in Damascus, Latakia and Kesab.
The 100,000 dollars provided by the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund’s French Local Body, the “Armenian Foundation of France,” will be directed to those educational institutions, where some 1,100 teachers and technical staff will receive financial support. Community educational and church buildings were also damaged by the earthquake, including the Karen Jeppe National Lyceum, the Kilikia School and the National Shelter in Aleppo, so part of the allocated financial support will be directed to the renovation of those institutions.
This urgent humanitarian program is being implemented in close cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Syria, as well as with the involvement of other ecclesiastical and community structures operating in Syria.
It should be noted that the previous assistance program for Syrian-Armenians was implemented in 2020, when the health and socio-economic situation in Syria became more complicated due to the Covid pandemic. The Fund provided 70,000 dollars to a number of Armenian educational institutions operating in Syria, as well as to Syrian-Armenians receiving treatment in Syria for Covid illness.
The Hayastan All-Armenian Fund expresses its solidarity with those affected by the earthquake and, remaining faithful to its pan-Armenian mission, stands firmly by the side of the Syrian-Armenian community.
