The Armenian village of Yakoubieh in northern Syria was also affected by the earthquake that took place on February 6. There is destruction there, and the Armenian St. Anna Church has also been damaged.
His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, has learned with deep sorrow of the immense destruction in the Armenian village of Yakoubieh. St. Anna, a historic church, had become a place of pilgrimage for our people.
According to a communiqué from the Catholicosate, the Catholicos has been in contact since yesterday and today with the Prelate of the Diocese of Berio, His Grace Bishop Makar Ashkaryan, and with community officials, and has closely followed the situation of our people’s children who have been plunged into hardship by the earthquake.
“Our officials are showing special care and attention to our compatriots who have taken refuge in seven centers, providing them with their necessary needs. On this occasion, the spiritual and lay community officials conveyed to His Holiness that, through a special committee, the work of registering damaged homes has begun,” the Catholicosate announced.
