As preparation for the Delegates’ Assembly of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party’s Lebanon chapter, the Regional Board has begun holding meetings with the chapter’s clubs. The Delegates’ Assembly is to take place on Sunday, 8 October 2023.
The first meeting was held with fellow members of the “Zartonk” and “Hovsepian” clubs at the Tekeyan Center. Opening the meeting, the chairman of the Regional Board, Dr. Avetis Dakesian, declared that he was pleased to announce that a new page had been opened in the book of our party’s history. We shall forget the past and shall buckle down to work to restore the Party to its past days of prosperity. The chairman declared that we shall begin by electing a new leadership at the Delegates’ Assembly to be held on 8 October. Each club must elect its delegates as preparation for the Delegates’ Assembly. A report was read regarding the youth movement and the new editorial board of the “Zartonk” daily. The Founders’ Body of the Tekeyan Cultural Union is engaged in the work of revitalising the “Zartonk” daily and the youth movement in cooperation with fellow Avetis Dakesian. After his opening remarks, the chairman gave the floor to the fellows for suggestions. A suggestion was made to revive the Tekeyan Student Movement as a school for preparing future leaders. In the Party’s bright days, that movement was of great assistance in the Party’s ascent.
The second meeting was held with the fellows of the “Baykar” and “Ekeian” clubs. Many fellows were present at the meeting, with smiles on their faces on the occasion of the restoration of the Party’s unity. Chairman Dr. Avetis Dakesian reported on the opening of a new page and the imperative of electing a new leadership. He asked the clubs to hold membership meetings to elect the delegates for the Delegates’ Assembly. Then the floor was given to a lively dialogue and suggestions. There were many constructive suggestions from esteemed fellows for the glory of the Party and the Tekeyan Cultural Union. To elect worthy members of the Party within the Founders’ Body of the Tekeyan Cultural Union, thereby assisting the Union’s ascent and the strengthening of cooperation. The re-establishment of the Judicial Council is imperative for returning the Party to the course of lawful work, for educational purposes and for evaluating violations. The Judicial Council’s work is also to educate so that members know the Party’s programme and bylaws and do not commit violations. A suggestion was also made to hold the election of members of the Tekeyan Cultural Union’s bodies through the membership by secret ballot, in order to return the Union to its past days of prosperity.
In the future, the Regional Board will also meet with the fellows of the Portuguese Club, the Shushan-Varteni Club, and the Zahle region.
The Party’s Lebanon chapter has already begun its work for reorganisation and revitalisation. Time and effort are needed. Respect to all our fellows in whose eyes we saw the hope and readiness to buckle down to noble work for the glory of our Party and the noble people.
