On Tuesday, 22 August 2023, the delegate assembly of the ADL Western US District Board took place at the Tekeyan Cultural Association’s “Beshgeturian” Center. The assembly, held with the participation of 24 delegates and alternate delegates, proceeded in an atmosphere of party discipline and solidarity. After welcoming those present in his opening remarks, the outgoing board chair, Dr. Raffi Balian, proposed viewing the District Board’s moral report.
Unlike previous assemblies, the report was prepared on video, presenting the activities of the past four years with pictures, explanations, and brief commentaries. Despite the political upheavals that unfolded in the homeland, the diaspora, and Artsakh over the past five years — such as the 44-day war and the COVID pandemic — the District Board carried out more than 90 activities, a credit to any board. The video was met with enthusiastic applause. Then the Board’s treasurer, Ara Kasabian, presented the financial report, from which it became clear that, again despite the unfavorable economic conditions and scarcity of financial resources of the past years, the Board had been able to overcome the difficulties and participate in community-wide undertakings, contributing its share. Likewise, by using our financial resources with thrift, the district’s “Nor Or” weekly newspaper continued to appear without interruption.
Then, according to the provisions of the program and bylaws, following the resignation of the incumbent board, it was declared discharged, and the day’s presidium was elected, chaired by veteran comrade Andranik Garakeozian, with comrade Minas Gojayian as secretary. Under the skilled leadership of the chair, the delegate assembly proceeded smoothly. By a majority of votes, it was decided to adopt the option of electing a chairperson. Candidates were proposed, among whom, by an absolute majority, attorney Tamar Poladian Peron was elected chair of the new board, and she was tasked with forming her board within the coming week.
We are confident that the newly elected chairwoman and her board will successfully carry the mission of the ADL Western US on their shoulders, continuing the path of their predecessors, bringing new initiatives and presenting new programs.
Success to the newly elected chairwoman and her board.
Long live the ADL.
Long live Artsakh.
Long live the Republic of Armenia.
