Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has stated that Baku is ready to stop the war in Artsakh, but first Yerevan must withdraw its troops from the “occupied” territories, reports RIA Novosti.
“First, I believe that the sooner the war ends, the better … I have said many times and can repeat once again that if the Prime Minister of Armenia undertakes to free the remaining territories, then we are ready to stop today. He has not yet undertaken such commitments,” Aliyev said in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, once again not refraining from setting preconditions.
Speaking of compromises, the President of Azerbaijan noted that Yerevan’s compromise should be “the complete liberation of all occupied territories in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions and the implementation of their basic principles.”
“The basic principles say that first five districts must be liberated, and then two. We have already unilaterally liberated four districts. Therefore, he (Pashinyan) must say that troops must be withdrawn from the Aghdam, Kelbajar and Lachin districts. But he made no such statement. This shows that he did not want to stop the war,” Aliyev concluded.
