Moscow is concerned that the transfer of mercenaries to the zone of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict continues. Their number is approaching 2,000. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during an interview published in Kommersant.
He said that this topic was raised by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on October 27, as well as in regular contacts with the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
“We consistently continue to advance our position through various channels,” Lavrov assured.
Lavrov noted that Russia’s task, as the main mediator, is to help Armenia and Azerbaijan emerge from the hot phase and find peaceful means of resolving the acute conflict.
Recalling the agreement reached in Moscow on establishing a humanitarian ceasefire, Lavrov said that Russia is doing everything possible, including with its OSCE Minsk Group co-chair partners from the United States and France, to bring that agreement to life.
“In parallel, we are offering various proposals for a political settlement. We expect that a constructive approach will prevail in Baku and Yerevan, that hostilities will cease, and that the Karabakh process will return to a political track,” said the Russian Foreign Minister.
