Almost heroic efforts have been required so that to this day no “Corona” has been detected among any convict or any detained person, although we do have cases of infection among the staff of the penitentiary service. This was stated by Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan during the discussion of the report on the Government’s 2019 performance in the National Assembly, referring to the ban on the transfer of parcels to penitentiary institutions raised by Naira Zohrabyan, a deputy of the “Prosperous Armenia” faction.
“Could there be a relaxation of the restrictions on parcels, since there are convicts or detainees who have cards with which they can make some purchases from shops, why can’t the others at least receive parcels?” the deputy asked.
Badasyan noted that as of yesterday’s data, there are 2,142 convicted and detained persons. “Imagine if all their relatives came and entered the penitentiary institutions with parcels, what indicators of the spread of infection there could be. The problem is only that,” the minister explained.
