The Ministry of Health has in recent days been separating the statistics of those who died from the “Corona” virus and those who had the “Corona” virus but died as a result of another illness. 42 people have died as a result of the “Corona” viral infection, 30 people are in extremely critical condition, 80 are in serious condition, and 8 patients are breathing with the help of artificial respiration devices.
The situation is increasingly complicated, said Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan, referring to the 163 new cases published on 6 May: “At this moment we are at the peak, that is, we are on the rise, we are still holding on, and the rest depends on the development of the situation.”
Minister Torosyan considered it possible to extend the state of emergency; the matter is being discussed until May 14. Arsen Torosyan stressed that he approaches the easing of restrictions with caution, but it is not possible to live closed up forever: “We must learn to live; now, how quickly and how smoothly that learning process goes for us depends on all of us, not only on me or the government, because if we learn painfully — and the painful part is the large number of cases, the many deaths, the many extremely critical cases — that will be a misfortune for all of us, but there is no alternative; we must learn to live. Learning means, for example, wearing a mask in enclosed spaces, standing apart from one another.”
“Corona” virus infection has been confirmed in one of the employees of the National Assembly; the President of the National Assembly, Ararat Mirzoyan, informed of this from the parliamentary rostrum.
The health department had issued a statement calling on doctors and nurses to work with patients with the “Corona” viral disease. According to Alina Nikoghosyan, so many people responded that there is no longer a shortage of staff: “More than a thousand healthcare workers responded, among them students, nuns, doctors, nurses, even dentists. They undergo retraining before entering the medical institution.”
The demand for healthcare workers is not due to the fact that the number of infected healthcare workers is large — around 320 people. According to the Ministry of Health’s clarification, infected doctors quickly return to work after the isolation phase; the staff shortage was due to the large overall number of infected people. At this moment, 1,648 patients are being treated in medical institutions.
