RA National Assembly President Ararat Mirzoyan has signed the law on making amendments and additions to the Law on the Constitutional Court, adopted by the National Assembly on 30 June. The President of the National Assembly wrote about this on his Facebook page.
The law must now be published in the official gazette and enter into force from that moment.
Let us recall that on 30 June an extraordinary session of the National Assembly was convened, during which the amendments to the Law on the Constitutional Court were discussed and adopted in their entirety. These amendments adopted by the National Assembly resolve the pension issue of Alvina Gyulumyan, Felix Tokhyan and Hrand Nazaryan, who have served in the high court for 12 years. The vacant seats of judges are also being registered. According to this amendment, it is proposed to change the order of nominations for vacant seats of Constitutional Court judges, assigning the first authority to make nominations to the Government, then to the President of the Republic, and then to the General Council of Judges.
After the adoption of the law, the President of the Republic, within a 21-day period, had not signed it and had not challenged its constitutionality, and after that period expired, the authority to sign the law was transferred to the President of the National Assembly.
