According to the preliminary results of the second round of voting in the Republic of Artsakh presidential elections held on 14 April, presidential candidate Arayik Harutyunyan, nominated by the “Free Homeland-Civic United Alliance” parties, has been elected president.
Chair of the RA Central Electoral Commission Srbuhi Arzumanyan, presenting the results, said that 39,860 voters, or 88% of voters, voted in favor of Arayik Harutyunyan, while 5,428 voters, or 12% of voters, voted in favor of Masis Mayilyan.
The CEC chair noted that Arayik Harutyunyan surpassed his previous tally by 3,784 votes. S. Arzumanyan reported that 104,777 voters have the right to vote in the Republic of Artsakh. This number also includes voters included in the supplementary list.
In total, the number of participants in the voting amounts to 47,165, or 45%. The number of invalid ballots amounts to 1,876, or 3.97%.
According to the CEC chair, these elections held in Artsakh are also distinguished by the fact that they were conducted under unusual circumstances, particularly amid the spread of the new “corona” virus pandemic afflicting the world.
S. Arzumanyan noted that the final decision regarding the election of the President of the RA will be made on 21 April.
