French President Emmanuel Macron has extended the state of emergency declared in the country due to the Corona virus pandemic by one month.
As CNN reports, the French president said this during a live broadcast. The strict measures imposed during the state of emergency and the closed borders are to remain in place until 11 May.
“It is clear that we were not ready for the Corona virus, but we held our ground. The pandemic is not over; we must continue our efforts and follow the rules. The better we observe these rules, the more lives will be saved,” Macron said, adding that schools are to open from 11 May.
In France, 574 people have died from the Corona virus in the past day, bringing the total death toll to 14,967 and the number of infected to 136,779.
