Collective Security Treaty Organization Secretary General Stanislav Zas has arrived in Armenia on a working visit. The delegation headed by Zas is in Armenia for a two-day visit, on August 9-10.
Armen Grigoryan, who is performing the duties of Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, received Collective Security Treaty Organization Secretary General Stanislav Zas.
Grigoryan presented to his interlocutor the situation created by the penetration of Azerbaijani armed forces into the Syunik and Gegharkunik regions, as well as Azerbaijan’s periodic provocations, including from the territory of Nakhichevan. Within the framework of the Armenian side’s assessments regarding the security situation in the CSTO area of responsibility and in the Caucasian region, Grigoryan drew attention to the consequences of the Azerbaijani-Turkish attack against Artsakh and the threats arising from it. Both sides stressed the need to de-escalate the situation.
The parties also touched upon Armenia’s upcoming chairmanship in the CSTO.
Armen Grigoryan informed about the conceptual approaches of the Armenian chairmanship, emphasizing that among the priorities will be increasing the organization’s effectiveness and strengthening the mechanism for timely response to the needs of member states.
Stanislav Zas, for his part, emphasized the importance of improving the CSTO and assured that the CSTO’s working bodies will invest all efforts in realizing the priorities to be announced by the Armenian side.
