In Paris, Armenia’s Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan met with his counterpart, France’s Rights Defender Claire Hédon.
Arman Tatoyan specifically noted the necessity of the immediate return of Armenian prisoners illegally held in Azerbaijan, informing that they are being held for political reasons, in violation of the rules of international law.
He also separately addressed the gross violations of the rights of Armenian soldiers and civilians by Azerbaijani troops, including the issue of responsibility for torture and atrocities.
He stressed that the Azerbaijani authorities are spreading a policy of Armenophobia and actively maintaining hostility against Armenians throughout the world, keeping the two peoples in tension, endangering the human rights system in other countries, and keeping the atmosphere in a state of tension. The tortures and atrocities committed during and after the war are the result of that policy.
