Armenia cannot remain indifferent to the problems of the Lebanese-Armenian community and, through its diplomatic representation, is in constant contact with all community structures. According to Armenpress, this was stated by Armenia’s Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, during a question-and-answer session with the National Assembly and government members, in response to a question from Taron Simonyan of Bright Armenia.

Taron Simonyan noted that the Armenian community in Lebanon faces quite serious problems and that a very serious economic crisis prevails in Lebanon. He asked whether Armenia is providing any support to the Lebanese-Armenian community in this regard.

“Armenia cannot remain indifferent to the problems of the Lebanese-Armenian community; through our diplomatic representation we are in constant contact with all community structures and will continue that dialogue, will continue to follow subsequent developments. The socio-economic condition of our Lebanese-Armenian compatriots, in general, is indeed quite critical. Armenia has been and remains the homeland of every Armenian who chooses to live in Armenia. In that regard, we will continue to work and prepare the necessary foundation that will allow us to respond,” said the Minister, noting that with regard to direct assistance, they will address it when there is more clarity.

The deputy noted that anti-Armenian sentiments in Lebanon are encouraged by the Turkish government and asked the Minister for his viewpoint.

The Minister replied that every significant manifestation of hate speech gives cause for particular concern. “Any speech containing religious and ethnic discrimination and hatred poses a threat, first and foremost, to the internal stability, state structure and fundamental values of social coexistence of friendly Lebanon. We are confident that the Lebanese government and public, and not only the Lebanese-Armenian community, will firmly react to any such manifestation,” said Mnatsakanyan.
