“It is logical that the opposition should vote against an Aliyev constitution, only there is a small nuance: no one in Armenia is preparing to adopt an ‘Aliyev constitution’,” National Assembly President Ruben Rubinyan has said, addressing the opposition’s statements on voting against the new Constitution.
According to the National Assembly president, there is a proposal in Armenia to adopt a new Constitution, which will be voted on by the Armenian people. “The people of Armenia cannot vote for a Constitution that is not theirs; when they vote, they will say it is theirs. I do not understand what is the logic of not allowing the people to decide,” the National Assembly president stressed.
He asserted that without seeing the text, how can one say that it is bad. “It is not possible to remove the Declaration and the reference for the simple reason that there is nothing in the text of the Constitution, which is being written entirely from zero. Suppose they are against it, what prevents them from giving the people the opportunity to decide,” Rubinyan emphasized.
He noted that it would be logical if the Constitution is put to a vote, and if the people reject it, then there will be a new political situation.
