On November 17, as a result of the elections held during the 41st session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris, Armenia was elected for the first time as a member of the UNESCO Executive Board (EB) for the period 2021-2025.

Four countries — Armenia, Lithuania, Ukraine and Azerbaijan — had presented their candidacies for the three vacant seats allocated for the elections to the Executive Board in the regional group of Eastern European countries.

As a result of the closed secret ballot, Armenia, receiving a maximum of 146 votes, was elected to the Executive Board with the first place.

Thus, Armenia has been elected as a member of the UNESCO Executive Board for the first time since its membership in UNESCO in 1992. Within the framework of its membership in the EB, Armenia will make efforts towards the implementation of its commitments and priorities, particularly in supporting the realization of UNESCO’s programs, ensuring access to quality education for all, and the protection and preservation of cultural heritage.
