Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan visited the German Council on Foreign Relations in Berlin, where he met with representatives of political, public and expert circles and took part in a discussion on “Security and Stability in the South Caucasus: Armenia’s Perspective.”

“Armenia has agreed to separate the settlement of the Artsakh issue from the Armenian-Azerbaijani process, on the logic that an international mechanism for discussions will be formed between Stepanakert and Baku. For Armenia, the creation of a guarantee mechanism aimed at resolving the security and rights issues of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh is of key importance, one that will have international visibility and involvement,” he said.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan assured that he has full determination on the question of signing a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, but it must not be a document that resembles capitulation for Armenia.

According to Pashinyan, he recently stated this also in Armenia’s parliament and government.

“It must be a document of real and lasting peace for our region, and I am ready to bear that responsibility for the sake of peace, stability, regional and international cooperation. This is my final conclusion of today’s discussion,” declared Prime Minister Pashinyan.

Referring also to the deployment of European Union civilian mission observers on Armenia’s territory, the Prime Minister stressed that they now have their own source of information and can clearly understand which side is the initiator of ceasefire violations.

“I expect that it will clearly show that any provocation will receive a very harsh response from the international community, and it is very important that stability be maintained. I emphasise that it does not matter whether it is from Armenia’s or Azerbaijan’s side, because now we have observers in the region, and there will no longer be a need for the EU to ask which side was the initiator,” said Pashinyan.

Pashinyan once again noted that Armenia needs the support of the international community and the peoples of the region, and is ready to bear that responsibility until they reach a final and lasting peace.
