On September 21, Armenia celebrated the 30th anniversary of its independence. In the morning, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, President Armen Sarkissian, Artsakh Republic President Arayik Harutyunyan, National Assembly President Alen Simonyan and other representatives of the authorities visited the Yerablur military pantheon to pay tribute to the memory of the heroes of the 44-day and four-day Artsakh wars.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Pashinyan laid flowers at the graves of Sparapet Vazgen Sargsyan and Andranik Ozanian, and a wreath at the memorial commemorating the sons of the nation who sacrificed their lives for the homeland.

During the day, a march of police forces and an orchestra took place through the streets of Yerevan.

In the evening, the main event took place at Republic Square, during which Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that a Park of Life, Kenats Park, would be established within the Yerevan Botanical Garden, where trees symbolizing the vitality and presence of all victims of all Artsakh wars would be planted.

“The culmination of the park will be the tree of life, symbolizing all our martyrs and the lives they gave to the homeland. It will not be a memorial, but a park of life, where children will run, make noise and play, young people will have fun, adults will stroll and converse, and this park will be about the fact that all those people gave their lives so that Armenia and Artsakh could live,” said Pashinyan.

The leader of Armenia showed the trees that had been brought to the square and noted that within the park they would symbolize the start of a new era in the history of the Republic of Armenia, an era of peaceful development.

After the Prime Minister’s speech, the State Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Choir performed.
