Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry has announced that Armenia violated the November 9 trilateral ceasefire agreement and concentrated new forces in Karabakh.
The Azerbaijani army will take proportionate steps; such a situation is unacceptable, Baku announced.
“In accordance with the trilateral declaration signed on November 10, 2020, by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia, the remnants of the Armenian forces remaining in Karabakh were to be withdrawn from the territory of Azerbaijan, where Russian peacekeepers are deployed,” the Azerbaijani military department announced, emphasizing that the Russian peacekeeping mission is temporary in nature.
“In recent days, Armenia has violated the trilateral declaration by moving its armed forces into the territory of Azerbaijan and opening new Armenian positions in Mukhtarakend and Shushakend, as well as in the eastern sections of Kelbajar and Lachin. Thus, the Armenian side is deliberately resorting to provocations in order to escalate the situation,” Baku asserted, adding that the Azerbaijani army will take all necessary measures.
Earlier, months ago, this issue was also raised by Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, who had also appealed to international bodies and the UN, insisting that Armenia had concentrated illegal forces on Azerbaijan’s territory. In response to those accusations coming from Azerbaijan, the Armenian side cited the provision of the trilateral declaration, according to which, after November 9, the parties remain on the positions they occupy.
