It was with deep sorrow that we learned that yesterday, 10 August 2021, journalist Raffi Hermon Arax, one of the rank-and-file members of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party, passed away in Yerevan.
He was born in 1958 in Istanbul. From a very young age he was involved in the work of the Armenian press. After completing his secondary education, Raffi Hermon Arax settled in Paris in his youth. For a long time he collaborated with the French-Armenian press. In the early 1990s, when Armenia was regaining its independence, Raffi Hermon Arax settled in Yerevan. This time he began collaborating with Armenia’s media outlets. After living in Armenia for some time, Raffi Hermon Arax decided to return to France. After re-establishing himself in Paris, alongside his journalistic activity, he participated in the work of the local Armenian Diaspora Studies Centre (CRDA). After years spent in France, Raffi Hermon Arax decided to return to his birthplace. Re-establishing himself in Constantinople, this time he began collaborating with various local media outlets, particularly on online platforms.
During his years living in Istanbul, in the recent past, he was elected deputy mayor of the Princes’ Islands, during the tenure of former mayor Mustafa Farsakoğlu. In recent years he had decided to settle once again in Yerevan, where he continued to carry out active work in the field of mass media, especially since, quite recently, he had also assumed the post of editor of the newly established Turkish-language section of the state agency Armenpress.
In his final days, Raffi Hermon Arax experienced unexpected health problems. He was taken to hospital as a result of an intestinal disorder. Although the doctors’ care continued throughout, Raffi Hermon Arax’s recovery proved impossible, and ultimately, following a heart attack, he closed his eyes to life, causing grief to his circle of friends.
On this occasion, “Ramgavar Mamoul” extends its heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, and particularly to the ranks of the ADL.
May his memory be blessed among the righteous.
