The Armenian government has approved the project to establish an embassy of the Republic of Armenia in the State of Israel. The embassy’s seat will be in Tel Aviv. The decision is considered important in terms of ensuring the steady development of Armenian-Israeli bilateral relations, reports Armenpress, noting that the opening of the embassy is planned for the shortest possible timeframe (end of 2019, beginning of 2020).
“Establishing an embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Israel, and thereby giving new impetus to bilateral relations, is aimed at more effectively protecting Armenia’s interests in the region. The establishment of the embassy is also intended to engage at the state level in the preservation of the centuries-old Armenian presence, the rich historical-cultural heritage, and the Armenian Apostolic Church’s status as custodian of the Holy Places,” reads the justification.
Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan noted that the opening of the embassy may take some time. “I avoid giving a specific timeframe, because there is the other side involved,” he said.
It should be noted that diplomatic relations between the Republic of Armenia and the State of Israel were established in April 1992.
In recent years, the course of development of Armenian-Israeli bilateral cooperation has grown considerably, as have contacts at various levels.
