This morning, at the meeting of the Conservatives and Reformists political group of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the issue of Armenian prisoners of war was discussed, where there were also Azerbaijanis. Their number in that group is large.
This was stated by Mikael Melkumyan, a representative of the Armenian delegation to PACE.
“We presented the situation that has been created. They are prisoners of war, but in essence, they are in the status of hostages, and the disgraceful situation that there are around two hundred prisoners held captive must be resolved quickly.
That is, the issue that the European Court of Human Rights has accepted the fact that this is not being done, was clearly presented during the discussion.
Their only counterargument was that they are not prisoners of war, but terrorists.
That is, in this political group, I clearly raised this question. Tomorrow evening, when this issue is to be discussed at the plenary session, it is obvious to us that the only thesis of the Azerbaijanis is that they are not merely prisoners of war, but terrorists,” Melkumyan noted.
