Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has announced that the Armenian side is studying “the questions of the inevitability of the Zangezur corridor.” According to Minval.az, he spoke about this on Sunday, receiving a delegation headed by Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure.
“In the first phase after the end of the war, Armenia was opposed to this question. But recently I have been informed that the Armenian side is properly studying the questions regarding the inevitability of that corridor. As you know, the discussions are now proceeding in a trilateral format. That question is being discussed within the framework of the working group at the level of the deputy prime ministers of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia,” said Aliyev.
“The Zangezur corridor will create a new link between Turkey and Azerbaijan. We have already begun the construction of the railway extending from Horadiz to the border with Armenia. I am confident that in the next two or two and a half years that railway will be put into operation. Most of the Nakhijevan railway is operational; the missing section will be built. The important section of the Zangezur corridor must be built in Armenia. Thus a new corridor will be opened, and that connection between Turkey and Azerbaijan will become stronger,” noted the Azerbaijani leader.
