Shushan Stepanyan, press secretary of the RA Ministry of Defense, announced that an Su-25 attack aircraft of the RA Armed Forces was shot down in the airspace of the Republic of Armenia by an F-16 aircraft of the Turkish Air Force.
The statement reads: “Today, from 10:30, F-16 fighter jets belonging to the Air Force of the Republic of Turkey had taken off from Azerbaijan’s ‘Ganja’ airbase and were providing air support for the bombing and missile strikes carried out by Azerbaijan’s Su-25 aircraft and Turkish-made ‘Bayraktar’ drones from the ‘Dalar’ airbase against RA residential areas and ground units of the Armed Forces located in the Vardenis, Mets Masrik and Sotk regions of the Vardenis district of the Republic of Armenia.
During that period, our air force was carrying out combat missions of fire support for the units of the RA Armed Forces’ air defense troops.
While carrying out the combat mission, during anti-aircraft and aerial combat, the Su-25 attack aircraft of the RA Armed Forces was shot down in the airspace of the Republic of Armenia by an F-16 fighter jet of the Air Force of the Republic of Turkey.
The pilot, unfortunately, was heroically martyred.
According to observation, the Turkish F-16 fighter jet was at a depth of 60 km, at an altitude of 8,200 meters.”
