Armenia’s Economic Growth to Reach 6 Percent This Year: Nikol Pashinyan

During the July 1 session of the RA government, Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Armenia will close this year with 6 percent economic growth, nearly twice what the government expected at the end of last year — 3.2 percent. “The 2021 budget draft projected 3.2 percent economic growth, but I am pleased to note that economic growth forecasts are being revised upward. And now, for 2021, 6 percent economic growth is projected.

But it is important that, alongside these indicators, we are carrying out the collection of the state budget’s revenue side quite successfully, as I have already said, and in that regard we have an overfulfillment for the half-year,” he said.

According to the Chairman of the State Revenue Committee, Eduard Hovhannisyan, 750.2 billion drams in taxes were collected in the first half of this year, whereas 697.7 billion drams had been projected. That is, the SRC managed to collect 52.5 billion drams more than planned.

After the executive’s session, Acting Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan reminded journalists of his earlier statements about closing the year with double-digit economic growth and stressed that even 6 percent annual growth is quite conservative, and achieving double-digit growth in 2021 remains on the agenda.

It should be noted that last year, mainly due to the “Corona” virus and the 44-day war, Armenia’s economy closed with a 7.4 percent decline, recording a contraction for the first time since 2009.
