From the very first days of the war unleashed on 27 September 2020 by Azerbaijan, Turkey and mercenary terrorists, legal assessments have been given to each individual case, as well as to the whole in its entirety. This was stated by RA Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan in an interview given to the First Channel, referring to the progress of criminal cases related to the war unleashed against Artsakh.
“Today, with the evidence already obtained in our criminal cases, we have corresponding criminal prosecutions in several directions. They relate to unleashing an aggressive war, gross violations of international humanitarian law, violating the rules of warfare with prohibited weapons, prohibited means of warfare; they also relate to the destruction and damage of Armenian historical-cultural values; they also relate to torture of captured Armenian servicemen, manifestations of inhuman treatment, international terrorism and the involvement of mercenary terrorists in those military operations. As of this moment, based on the results of the investigation in those cases, we have around four dozen persons subject to criminal prosecution, who have also been declared wanted. We have also had 2 mercenary terrorists arrested during military operations, against whom we already have a judicial act, a verdict has been rendered, and they have been sentenced to life imprisonment,” stated Artur Davtyan.
Referring to his recent trilateral meeting with his Russian counterpart and the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan, Artur Davtyan noted that after the signing of the 9 November trilateral statement, in essence, all necessary mechanisms are being undertaken in the region towards the resolution of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, and legal mechanisms have their own distinct place among those mechanisms. He observed that the Russian Federation has an active involvement in this process, particularly in the sphere of resolving post-war humanitarian issues.
