The President of the Republic of Artsakh, Arayik Harutyunyan, has decided to bestow the highest title of “Hero of Artsakh” upon the head of the administration of the Martuni region of the Republic of Artsakh, Ararat Mikaeli Melkumyan, for his exceptional services rendered to the Republic of Artsakh in the cause of defending the Homeland and ensuring its security, and for the courage and personal bravery he has displayed.
“Ararat Melkumyan’s exemplary military bearing was evident already during the first Artsakh war, and then throughout his professional service. During the days of the four-day war of 2016, the Homeland highly valued his selfless actions, awarding him the ‘Combat Cross’ medal of the first degree. And what the reserve colonel did throughout the war unleashed by Azerbaijan on 27 September was not merely a moment of heroism, but a lesson to generations — never to surrender.
We have time to straighten our backs…,” he wrote.
