Moderna, the company of prominent Armenian-American entrepreneur Nubar Afeyan, has announced that the price of one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will range between 25 and 37 US dollars. According to the Reuters agency, this was stated by the company’s CEO Stéphane Bancel in an interview given to the German weekly Welt am Sonntag.
Bancel stated that the company is not interested in maximum profit, and that the stated price is “fair,” considering how much the healthcare system spends on the treatment of one severely ill patient. The exact price of the vaccine will depend on the volume of orders.
Hours after the publication of this interview, the producer of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine announced that the Russian vaccine will have a significantly lower price than the vaccines of Moderna or Pfizer (one dose of which will cost 19.5 US dollars). This was reported on the Russian vaccine’s Twitter page.
