The factions of the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh have issued a statement regarding the visit of representatives of foreign diplomatic missions accredited in Baku to the occupied territories of Artsakh on 10 July 2021. We present the statement below.
“Following the large-scale war unleashed by Azerbaijan against the Republic of Artsakh, hostile actions against Armenian historical, cultural and spiritual values continue, in violation of international law and, in particular, international humanitarian law. And all this is not only not condemned by international structures and individual countries, but the opposite is being done: official Baku spares no effort to make representatives of those same structures and countries participants in and accomplices to its expansionist and inhumane actions.
It is against this backdrop that one must also view the organisation by the Azerbaijani authorities on 10 July 2021 of a visit by representatives of foreign diplomatic missions accredited in Baku to the occupied territories of the Republic of Artsakh, including the staged filming in Shushi.
We strongly condemn such conduct. Through it, Azerbaijan is attempting to form a circle of supporters for the implementation of its aggressive expansionist programme against the Republic of Artsakh. During the 44-day war, Azerbaijan, with the support of Turkey and international terrorist groups, seized most of the Republic of Artsakh, including the city of Shushi, the cultural and spiritual centre of the Armenian people.
The failure of the international community to condemn the visit of the President of Turkey to Shushi prompted the Azerbaijani authorities to undertake new provocative actions, which were followed by the visit to Shushi of foreign diplomats accredited in Baku. We consider this distortion of historical realities and the misrepresentation of the essence of the conflict by such methods to be a step aimed at undermining the peaceful settlement of the conflict, which grossly violates the fundamental principles of international law.
While appreciating the rejecting stance of the co-chair countries of the OSCE Minsk Group towards that staging, we call for the condemnation of such provocative actions and for steps to be taken towards the de-occupation of the territories of the Republic of Artsakh and the entrenchment of the right of the Artsakh population to live freely.”
