The President of the Republic of Artsakh, Arayik Harutyunyan, convened an expanded meeting of the Security Council on March 27. This was reported by the office of the President of Artsakh.

Welcoming those present, the head of state said:

«During the previous meeting of the Security Council, we made decisions, including addressing a call and request to the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, to make efforts to ensure the return of the adversary to their starting positions through the peacekeeping forces deployed in Artsakh and to secure peace. In this regard, the response of the Russian Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 26 is very welcome.

Also very important was the response of the other co-chair countries of the OSCE Minsk Group, as well as the active work of our partners in the Republic of Armenia. As you know, with the aim of stabilising the situation, telephone discussions took place between the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and the President of the Russian Federation, and between the defence ministers of the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation, followed by a telephone conversation between the defence ministers of the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan. That is to say, the interested and responsible countries, assessing the situation, have carried out their mediating mission», said President Harutyunyan.

Referring to the speculations of certain public and political circles that the recent attack by the Azerbaijani side was the result of certain understandings with the Artsakh authorities, the President characterised them as provocative and divisive.

«Our understanding is one — the implementation of the points of the trilateral statement; there can be no other understanding. Therefore, such provocative statements are intended to divert us from the real issues, from unity, and to divide the public. Not only can there be no understanding, but no decision will be made without discussion with the full or expanded composition of the Security Council», said the President.

Subsequently, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Artsakh, Kamo Vardanyan, presented a report on the latest military-political developments in the country.

At the meeting, issues related to taking appropriate steps in the current situation were once again clarified. President Harutyunyan gave a number of instructions.
