“Washington is closely following the situation established on the line of contact since November 2020. The United States is deeply concerned by the movements of Azerbaijani forces. The troop movements and other measures leading to escalation are irresponsible and unnecessarily provocative,” the US State Department has declared.
During a press briefing held on Friday, the Principal Deputy Spokesperson of the American foreign policy agency, Jalina Porter, responding to a journalist’s question, referred to the March 24 telephone conversations of Deputy Secretary of State Karen Donfried with the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan. Donfried, according to Porter, “only reaffirmed what Secretary of State Antony Blinken told Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, as well as President Ilham Aliyev, on March 21 and 22, calling on both sides to show restraint and redouble diplomatic engagement to find comprehensive solutions to all remaining issues. Armenia and Azerbaijan only need to use the direct communication channels to achieve an immediate de-escalation,” Porter added.
