Ahmet Iskender, who was arrested in 2007 for aiding in the murder of Hrant Dink, the Armenian-Turkish journalist, intellectual and founding editor-in-chief of the weekly newspaper Agos, sentenced in 2013 to 12 years and 6 months in prison, and who had been at large, has been extradited to Turkey.
According to Agos, Iskender was discovered a month ago in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, by the joint forces of the Turkish National Security and International Intelligence Services, and was arrested by Kyrgyz law enforcement. A passport in his brother’s name with an altered photograph was found on him. On Sunday, Ahmet Iskender was brought to Turkey and sent to prison.
On 19 January 2007, Hrant Dink was shot dead in front of the Agos editorial offices by 17-year-old Turkish nationalist Ogün Samast. Although a number of people have been convicted in connection with the murder, Dink’s family still maintains today that the real culprits have not been identified.
