Irina Gabrielyan from Askeran and Aram Verdyan from Stepanakert were married yesterday, on 27 December, at Dadivank, which has come under Azerbaijani control but is guarded by Russian peacekeepers. Details of the wedding were provided to NEWS.am by Aram’s friend, Vladimir Grigoryan.
“Aram was in the ranks of the Martakert region’s defensive forces from the first day of the war to the last; his wife is from Askeran, and during the war she was involved in rear-support work. They were engaged before the war and had intended to marry at the end of September, but the war began… today they decided that they would marry at Dadivank. Over the course of a week, certain arrangements were made with the Russian peacekeepers, and the wedding took place. In total, 70 people attended the wedding. The peacekeepers accompanied the guests along the entire route, peacekeepers were present on site, and no incident occurred,” he said.
The wedding was performed by the head of the Artsakh diocese, Archbishop Pargev, who also celebrated a year-end liturgy.
Before the wedding, Irina and Aram laid flowers at a poster in Stepanakert expressing gratitude to the Armenian soldier.
