Azerbaijan not only fails to fulfill the provisions of the trilateral statement regarding the unconditional return of prisoners, but also audaciously attempts to present the prisoners as “mercenaries” and fabricates criminal cases against them.
According to Turan, Azerbaijan’s chief prosecutor Kamran Aliyev informed journalists about such another batch of criminal cases. The reference is to citizens of Lebanon of Armenian origin, whom Azerbaijan is trying to present as “mercenaries,” although they well know that this is not the case.
The criminal case against one citizen of Lebanon has already been sent to Baku’s military court. “Criminal cases against other terrorists are nearing completion,” Aliyev had stated.
One of them is Vigen Ivljekyan, a citizen of Lebanon (born in 1979). He has been charged under Articles 114.3 (participation of a mercenary in armed conflicts or military operations), 214.2.1 (terrorism committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy), 318.2 (illegal crossing of the state border of Azerbaijan) and other articles of Azerbaijan’s Criminal Code.
