Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has made rather questionable statements regarding Canada and France.
“Sometimes countries located at the other end of the world make statements related to the conflict or to processes taking place in Azerbaijan. That is unacceptable. As an example, I can cite Canada. Recently I was informed that Canada’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had issued a statement regarding Azerbaijan, concerning our internal affairs. By what right? Who granted it that right? Is it possible that it is a superpower, perhaps it is a second Luxembourg, that has emerged as a second superpower, and we are not aware of it? Let them mind their own business,” Aliyev declared during an interview given to Azerbaijani television.
“I reject the statements of France’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We have repeatedly conveyed our demands to the French side to leave us alone. Go and mind your own business. A representative of France’s Senate arrives in Yerevan and declares that the French Senate recognizes Nagorno-Karabakh. When we address France’s governmental bodies on this matter and express our protest, they urge us to pay no attention, saying that it is a legislative body that does not reflect the position of the authorities. Well, does the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also not reflect the government’s position? What kind of statements are these? Let them mind their own business,” the indignant Azerbaijani president continued.
