The Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Foundation has issued a statement regarding the closure by Azerbaijan of the only road connecting Artsakh to Armenia.

Below we present the statement.

“Since 12 December 2022, Azerbaijan has blockaded the only road connecting the Republic of Artsakh to the world. Despite the various pretexts put forward by Azerbaijan, its strategic goal is one: to force the population of the Republic of Artsakh to leave their historic homeland. In this matter, Azerbaijan is guided by a plan to gradually turn Artsakh into a Nakhichevan — no Armenians, no problems. At the same time, Azerbaijan will clearly not be satisfied with the depopulation of Artsakh. The public statements made by Azerbaijan’s military-political leadership after the second Artsakh war of 2020 clearly testify to its territorial claims against the Republic of Armenia, including the capital, Yerevan.

Azerbaijan’s military-political leadership is encouraged by the growth of Azerbaijan’s importance driven by recent geopolitical developments, including the growing opportunities for the export of Azerbaijani and Turkmen gas through Azerbaijani territory to international markets. Perhaps in Baku they believe that geopolitical and geo-economic interests will force the world to turn a blind eye to the perpetration of genocidal acts against the Armenians of Artsakh and to the unleashing of a new aggression (attack) against the Republic of Armenia.

However, the experience of the last more than one hundred years unambiguously testifies to one thing: those who perpetrate genocide and genocidal acts have borne their deserved punishment. We are confident that Azerbaijan’s military-political leadership will also answer for the crimes already committed and currently being planned against the Armenian nation, and the Armenians of the Republic of Artsakh, despite the unspeakable difficulties at hand, will continue to live and create in their historic homeland”:
