Early this morning, alerts were presented to the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia stating that last night, between 12 and 1 o’clock, Azerbaijani armed forces fired shots in the direction of Aravus village in the Syunik Province. The RA Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan announced this on his Facebook page.
“The villagers confirmed this information to the Human Rights Defender and insisted that aimed shots were also fired at the positions of the RA armed forces.
The reference is to that section of Aravus village where Azerbaijani armed forces are positioned a few hundred metres from civilian homes.
Directly opposite them are positioned the RA armed forces, which carry out the function of protecting the lives and safety of the residents.
According to the facts gathered by the staff of the Human Rights Defender, the Azerbaijani shootings ceased after the arrival of the community bodies of Tegh, the command of the RA 1st Army Corps and the Russian border guard service.
Last night’s Azerbaijani shootings in the direction of Aravus village are criminal; they disrupt people’s normal, peaceful life and safety.
These facts prove that the presence of Azerbaijani armed forces in the immediate vicinity of RA villages and on the roads between communities is in itself a violation of people’s right to life. They also violate people’s right to property, freedom of movement and other vital rights.
It is obvious that people’s rights will be possible to ensure only under conditions of a security zone,” he wrote.
