The detained Lebanese-Armenian Vigen Uljekyan is being tried in Baku.
According to Azerbaijani media reports, the first hearing is to take place today in Baku’s military court, presided over by Judge Elbay Allahverdiyev. “The prosecutor will read the indictment, and the defendant will give testimony,” the media outlets reported.
Vigen Uljekyan (born 1979), a Lebanese citizen, is accused of participating in military operations as a mercenary. The charge is based on his citizenship.
Meanwhile, Baku knows full well that numerous sons of the Armenian diaspora rushed to aid their historic homeland during both the second and first wars unleashed by Azerbaijan. Presenting them as “mercenaries” is, to say the least, foolish.
Apart from Vigen, the Azerbaijani authorities have initiated judicial farces against several dozen other detained Armenians, bringing ridiculous charges.
