Turkey’s pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party has responded to the indictment sent to the Constitutional Court by the country’s chief prosecutor’s office with the aim of closing the party. This was reported by the periodical Gazete Karınca.
“Those who maintain silence against the mafias are attacking our party in order to expand their power,” the party’s statement said.
The party posted the statement on its Twitter page, attaching to it the hashtag “Prosecute the mafia, not the HDP.”
Let us recall that a turbulent political scandal has erupted in Turkey. At the beginning of last year, Turkish mafia boss Sedat Peker, who had fled the country, published sensational videos on YouTube in which he speaks of the ties between the Turkish elite and the criminal underworld, and also accuses officials in President Erdoğan’s circle of murders, drug trafficking, corruption and other crimes.
It should be noted that in the indictment of Turkey’s chief prosecutor’s office against the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party, a ban on political activity has been requested for some 500 members of the party. The indictment also requests that a precautionary measure be applied to the party’s bank account.
