Nicolas Aznavour, co-founder of the Aznavour Foundation and chairman of its board of trustees, has sent a letter to French President Emmanuel Macron. The Aznavour Foundation reports this.

“Dear Mr. President, Dear friend, faithful supporter of the Armenian people, the past days have been filled with pain and deep anxiety for the entire Armenian nation. The Armenian people are once again under threat, and, as in 1915, today they are forced to fight for their existence. Armenian soldiers are bravely holding the country’s borders, but the battles are fierce and the casualties numerous.

I turn to you once again as a man and a leader who is not afraid to speak the truth, and for whom human values are paramount. You have proven this throughout your entire tenure. In your recent statements, you once again reminded Armenians and the world that Armenia is not alone in the face of those executioners. You boldly condemned Turkey’s hypocrisy and cynicism and its complicity in Baku’s crimes. During this conflict, the involvement of Syrian jihadists, mercenary-terrorists, once again reveals the immoral character of those governments and portends a terrorist threat that, at Turkey’s hand, reaches the thresholds of Europe and Russia. Baku is targeting civilians and journalists, using banned munitions, violating all principles of international law.

Your support and that of the French people is very important to us. I ask you to take concrete steps for the salvation of our people — recognizing the Republic of Artsakh as a sovereign state that can benefit from the provisions of international law; I ask that economic sanctions be imposed on Azerbaijan and Turkey for the crimes they have committed, as well as pressure be brought to bear on the UN to put in place mechanisms to restore peace in the region.

I believe in you and your principles; I am hopeful that our humanitarian and democratic values will triumph over tyranny and criminality, whose driving forces are greed and the thirst for power. Armenia is a bastion of civilization that must be protected,” the letter reads.
