Under the high patronage of the Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Australia and New Zealand, His Eminence Archbishop Haigazoun Najarian, on Friday evening, 21 April 2023, the commemoration of the 108th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide took place, organised by the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party, the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party and the Armenian General Benevolent Union.
On this occasion, the President of the “Republic” Party, Mr. Aram Sargsyan, and the homeland’s esteemed journalist and analyst, Mr. Nver Mnatsakanyan, had arrived in Australia by special invitation from Armenia.
The ceremony, held in the hall of St. Anne’s Anglican Church in Ryde, began with an acknowledgement of the traditional custodians of the land, followed by a moment of silence in memory of the martyrs of the Armenian people.
Master of Ceremonies Zani Oghjian delivered the opening remarks. Then, the newly elected Member for Ryde, Jordan Lane, offered brief heartfelt words, noting that Ryde is home to a large Armenian community, and promising to continue supporting efforts for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
Manoug Demirjian conveyed the message of the organising committee, after which Aram Sargsyan was invited to deliver his address. The President of the “Republic” Party spoke about the problems facing Armenia and the means of their resolution, touched upon domestic and foreign portfolios, the challenges before Armenia and the principles for overcoming them. Aram Sargsyan emphasised unity, on the principle of strengthening statehood, and assured that Armenia again has the capacity to prevail.
Subsequently, His Eminence Archbishop Haigazoun Najarian delivered the closing remarks of the day. He stressed that only the Armenian people can reclaim their rights, because no one else will help, as history demonstrates.
In order to become acquainted with the internal and external challenges facing the homeland and to discuss these issues concerning the Armenian people, the President of the homeland’s “Republic” Party, Aram Sargsyan, on Saturday evening, 22 April 2023, held a meeting with the Armenian-Australian community in the AGBU Alex Manoogian Hall, organised by the SDHP, ADL and AGBU, in the presence of the Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Australia and New Zealand, His Eminence Archbishop Haigazoun Najarian, and guests. The conversation was moderated by the homeland’s esteemed journalist Nver Mnatsakanyan, while the role of coordinator was entrusted to Areg Yapoudjian.
Aram Sargsyan answered the numerous questions of those present, providing clarifications to their concerns and comments. The discussion-conversation focused on the topics of Armenia’s security, the Artsakh crisis, geopolitical changes and Armenia-Turkey relations, and at the end of the meeting, appropriate hospitality was extended.
