On 7 December 2023, the 35th anniversary of the devastating Spitak earthquake was marked — a disaster that also claimed thousands of human lives in the city of Gyumri.
In keeping with tradition, on this day every year, delegates of the Republican Board of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party take part in the memorial service honouring the innocent victims of the earthquake in Gyumri.
Today as well, led by ADL secretary and Republican Board member Hovik Karapetyan, ADL representatives attended the Holy Liturgy for the repose of the victims of the disaster at the Church of the Holy Saviour in Gyumri, celebrated by the Primate of the Shirak Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, His Grace Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan, and offered incense and lit candles.
Afterwards, in the churchyard, together with the republican and municipal authorities and the public of Gyumri, they laid a wreath and placed flowers on behalf of the party at the monument “To the Innocent Victims, to the Compassionate Hearts” by Gyumri sculptor Frid Soghoyan, paying their respects to the memory of the tens of thousands of victims.
Let us also recall that, on the occasion of the anniversary of the earthquake, the ADL Republican Board published the book “Kindled Anxieties and Bells of Hope” by Gyumri poet Sergey Kurazyan.
May the memory of the righteous be blessed…
