Today, 9 July, at 18:00, the hearing of the appeal against the results of the 20 June elections concluded within the Constitutional Court; it will continue tomorrow at 10:00. At the end of the session, Constitutional Court President Arman Dilanyan asked Aram Vardevanyan, representative of the “Hayastan” alliance, how much more time he needed to complete his report. Vardevanyan, who had already been presenting his report for about an hour, said that 40 more minutes were needed. It was decided to hear the continuation tomorrow.
It should be noted that in his report, Aram Vardevanyan addressed the grounds of the application submitted to the Constitutional Court. Referring to the motion to invite the President of the Republic to the Constitutional Court session as a witness, Vardevanyan said: “The elections were held on 20 June, but on 18 March Nikol Pashinyan announced that early parliamentary elections would take place on 20 June. It is very important that he did not assume the function of conveying the president’s announcements, but made the announcement in his own name. I think it is obvious that these are not the same thing. The Constitution states that the one who makes the announcement is the President of the Republic.”
The representative of the “Hayastan” alliance also considered it a problem that, by resigning on 25 April, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan continued to perform his duties. According to him, there may be an issue here regarding the possible abuse of administrative means.
Speaking about the voting of servicemen, Vardevanyan emphasised that the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces should be invited in the status of a witness to determine whether indeed 10,993 servicemen participated in the voting.
Let us recall that on 9 July, the Constitutional Court was hearing the applications contesting the election results. The “Hayastan” and “I Have Honor” alliances, and the “Zartonk” and “Hayots Hayrenik” parties are contesting the election results. Their applications are being examined within the framework of one consolidated case.
