On 17 October 2021, council elections will be held in 9 communities of Armenia. More than 187 thousand voters will form their local self-government bodies. In 3 of the communities, residents will elect five council members each under the majoritarian electoral system. In two of them, they will also elect a community head.
This was reported by the Vanadzor office of the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly.
To participate in the proportional elections, a party must submit candidates numbering at least 1/3 of the number of council members of the given community. The number of representatives of each sex cannot exceed 70%. In multi-settlement communities, the party must submit candidates from at least half of the settlements.
The city of Gyumri will elect a proportional council for the 2nd time, composed of parties and alliances.
Goris, Meghri, Tegh, Tatev and Dilijan, multi-settlement communities, will for the first time elect not individuals but parties and alliances, entrusting community governance to one political force or another.
The deadline for the nomination of candidate parties is 12 September.
