On the afternoon of September 30, protest demonstrations took place in Cyprus in front of the embassies of the Russian Federation and the United States, organized by the units of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party, the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party, and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation operating in Cyprus.
The protest in Nicosia was sponsored by the Catholicosal Vicar of the Diocese of Cyprus, His Grace Archbishop Khoren Toghramajian, under the presidency of the state representative of the Armenian community, Vartkes Mahdessian.
A delegation representing the protesters appeared before the ambassadors of the Russian Federation and the United States and handed a memorandum condemning the large-scale attacks unleashed by Azerbaijan on September 27 to the senior diplomats. The memorandum also condemned Turkey’s obvious involvement, noting that the Artsakh issue can only be resolved through negotiations and not through military operations. Earlier that morning, a copy of the memorandum had also been handed to the French ambassador.
Between 400 and 450 protesters participated in the demonstration, with tricolor and Republic of Artsakh flags and placards, loudly chanting slogans condemning the military operations of Azerbaijan and Turkey in Artsakh during the protest.
Many Greek-Cypriot deputies, former members of the European Parliament, the mayor of Strovolos, as well as members of the recently formed Circle of Friends of Artsakh by the Armenian National Committee of Cyprus, also participated in the protest. The local press, mass media, and social networks widely covered the demonstration.
