A decision will be made later on extending the presence of the Russian Federation’s peacekeeping force in Nagorno-Karabakh. This was stated by the former commander of the RF peacekeeping force, Lieutenant-General Rustam Muratov, TASS reports.
“We only positively assess the activities of the RF peacekeeping force. The civilian population gives us the assessment; today life in Nagorno-Karabakh is proceeding in full swing. There are, of course, very complex issues, but the process is moving forward — the return of people, the resolution of problematic issues. I think everything will be normal,” Muratov said.
He added that Russian peacekeepers will remain in the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh for 5 years. “The first 5 years, according to the agreement signed by the leaders of the three states. Later, a decision will be made on extending the presence of the Russian peacekeeping force,” he added.
Hero of Russia Rustam Muratov completed his mission as commander of the Russian peacekeeping forces in Nagorno-Karabakh on 6 September. The commander now is Major-General Mikhail Kosobokov.
