The Government of the Republic of Armenia has decided to terminate early the powers of the Council of Elders of the Vedi community in Ararat Province.
“To call early elections for the Council of Elders in the Vedi community, in accordance with the procedure established for regular elections of local self-government bodies as defined by the RA Constitutional Law ‘Electoral Code of the Republic of Armenia’,” the government decision states.
It should be noted that in Vedi, all candidates for the Council of Elders from the “Civil Contract” and “Republic” parties have submitted applications for self-withdrawal.
Let us recall that according to the results of the local government elections held on 5 December, the “My Strong Community” party had garnered the most votes in Vedi. 8,666 people had voted in favour of the party. The “Civil Contract” party had received 7,690 votes, and the “Republic” party 3,299 votes. No force had received sufficient votes to form a government alone.
