Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of Armenia’s Security Council, said today that Armenia no longer has hope for CSTO intervention.
“Naturally, such hope existed, and, naturally, that hope has been completely dashed, and there is no such hope anymore. The fact that the CSTO has not yet responded properly so that Azerbaijani forces fully withdraw from Armenia’s sovereign territory means that our expectations have not been met,” he said in an interview with Azatutyun.
It should be noted that on the evening of 15 September, in accordance with a decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council, a group from the CSTO Joint Staff arrived in Armenia to carry out an observation mission, headed by the Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, Colonel-General Anatoly Sidorov. This was reported by the Ministry of Defence.
On the same day, Colonel-General Anatoly Sidorov received Armenia’s Defence Minister Suren Papikyan. The head of the defence department presented the situation created by the large-scale attack carried out by Azerbaijan on 13 September and raised the issues related to the upcoming observation mission.
The Minister expressed the hope that the group will carry out effective work and will present a detailed and accurate report to the CSTO Collective Security Council regarding the situation created.
In the coming days, the CSTO Joint Staff group will carry out appropriate work at the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia and in the areas of combat operations.
