On 30 November, the French Parliament unanimously adopted a resolution supporting Armenia and proposing sanctions against Azerbaijan.
According to a statement published on the Facebook page of the Armenian Embassy in France, alongside other provisions, the French Parliament’s resolution:
– Calls for the immediate and unconditional release and repatriation of all Armenian prisoners of war.
– Proposes that the government consider the possibility of applying individual sanctions in the event of the continuation of attacks and seizures by Azerbaijan against Armenia’s sovereign territory.
– Calls on the government to continue its mediation efforts to resolve the security issue of the Armenian population of Artsakh, in accordance with the provisions of Parliament’s Resolution No. 502 of 2020 (which proposed that the government recognise Artsakh).
– Proposes that the government consider the possibility of strengthening Armenia’s defence capabilities.
– Calls on international organisations to take all necessary measures for the protection of Armenian cultural and religious heritage in the territories of Armenia and Artsakh under the control of Azerbaijan.
It should be noted that the resolution was presented by the parliamentary majority, the ruling “Renaissance” faction.
The Armenian Ambassador to France and embassy staff were present at the session with the status of guests of honour.
It should be recalled that two weeks ago, the French Senate also adopted a similar resolution.
